Nihilist Cheerleader Drop Infectious Single

New Release: “So Good” by Nihilist Cheerleader

The Athens, Georgia scene has proven to be a creative musical landscape for decades, and there’s no slowing down anytime soon. Nihilist Cheerleader is the self-professed “dance punk band outta Athens/ATL reflecting on all the bad things but still tryna party” are relatively new to the scene, releasing the Parkour EP in 2015, Truth or Dare in 2016, and Riot, Right? in 2018. The band’s newest single is “So Good,” and it is so good.

Riding on the previous success of such tight singles as “Who’s Gonna Hear You,” along with “& She Takes It,” the foursome mixes their dance punk with surprisingly tasty melodies. Incidentally, the latter is not a tune about a woman taking the abuse, but doling it out (“I love the type of woman that knows when she needs to start a fight / I love the type of woman that knows when she needs to throw a punch / I love the type of woman that knows when she needs to take a stand and she takes it”).

But let’s digress. We’re here to talk about the new single “So Good,” previously described as so good. Head cheerleader and unassuming riot-grrrl-next-door Flynne Collins leads a full-on assault on the senses in the new single. Each musician leaves everything on the field and their skillful musicianship is evident. The well-produced tune is instantly infectious, as is the video which was filmed in and around Atlanta’s famed Krog Street Tunnel.

The new single can be found on Bandcamp as the lead track from the compilation ECO 002: VEXED on Atlanta’s Ecology Records. Check it out and look for a chance to see the band live. Let’s hope this is a preview of coming attractions for a new Nihilist Cheerleader album.
